Typewriter's music is psychedelic, progressive, postpunk, folkpop, heavy, fresh, complicated & hypnotic. Sometimes not complicated. Some pieces vocally melodic - other tracks instrumental, bleeping & pulsing. Although performed almost exclusively by Bandola - ex singer and player in South London's The Lucy Show - the 2 albums by Typewriter feature a wide range of guest appearances. Debut album 'Skeleton Key' was released in late 2003 and featured an avalanche of material ( some accumulated over the years, then shoved in with new material ). MOJO magazine described it thus: "With the flair of a Rundgrenesque renaissance man, ex-Lucy Show singer/guitarist Bandola has assembled 31 tracks of shimmering eclectic delight. Even though it leaps from loops and samples to alt country and shameless rock guitar, this album never feels fragmentary." **** Also MUSIC-CRITIC.com wrote: "...veers wildly between just about every single style of music you've ever heard of. And it's beautiful. The transitions between the tracks are sometimes harsh, and the musical styles butted up against each other don't always make what's called "sense." But that's just a good argument against "sense." Because when songs are this good, nothing else matters." ***** Summer 2006 sees the release of 2nd album entitled 'Birdsnest'. WORDS-ON-MUSIC say: "On 'Birdsnest', Typewriter fashions a majestic tapestry guided by the hands of The Beatles, Brian Eno, Captain Beefheart, Spacemen 3, and Bandola's old 1980s post-punk London outfit, The Lucy Show. Bandola's voice is unmistakable and he employs it to great effect throughout the record, venturing into bittersweet ballads, upbeat Roxy Music romanticism, and Eastern-influenced Beatles. When not making music, painting pictures, or torching his PC, Bandola finds peace and inspiration by watching sparrows go nuts, or jumping in the river.
