Mac Charles
 Location: portland oregon

I was born and raised here in portland oregon,my mother is a singer/dancer,my brother a dancer/dj,my sisters are singers,my grandfather played trombone, piano and guitar for tommy dorsey and I inherited the bug for music, damn.

I started out listening to whatever was brought into the house by my mother and sisters, the beatles, steely dan, alice cooper, black sabbath, gilbert o'sullivan, tony bennett, frank sinatra, deep purple, doobie brothers, james taylor ect.it was a VERY musical household.

Later,as I got older and established my own taste and direction,I started gravitating to jazz.Listening to cats like George benson,Earlk klugh,d'jango, tom scott, steve kahn...around this time an adopted(tone deaf) sister had an old guitar laying around and noticed my interest in it.I cant remember what it was but she forever changed my life by giving it to me.It had 3 strings and wasnt tuned, but I "wrote" songs on it anyway....heh heh.

No need for too many details through this part, fast forward 10 or so years and BAM!!....punk was exploding,I had energy to burn and I was in!!

I joined a hippy/jam/punk outfit called high noon and got some stage time....wow,this is frickin great! I remember thinking. The band eventually split(recording the best material after I left ofcoarse) and I struck out on my own with a nylon string guitar and a handful of songs, playing open mikes all over portland.

Thats when I met Dennis tryon.

Fast forward again.Dennis and I started a pop band called "checkered past" with singer Doug ehr and garnered some great press over the coarse of 4 years until dennis left, leaving doug and I to push forward and change the name to "the skeptics"...........we took off, playing bigger venues and playing rockstars for two or more years until the wheels fell off.

I was not happy with the way things had turned out so i quit my day job and landed on whidbey Island washington so as to be near seattle. While there I was signed to an indie label, recorded a cd that got me 6 grammy nominations and three charting singles.

fast forward again........

The label dissolved,I moved back to portland and went into hiding.During my self imposed exile ,Dennis came around and we started "circa now",writing and recording every weekend for 5 years(you can hear some of the results here on sp).

The road is littered with stories like this.

The money started to run low and I took another day job.....thats when I met Eric James.

Musical genius and sponge,we hit it off right away.We started "I 5 NORTH" and two months later we opened for cheap trick, color me bad,the tories and were hangin with people we never thought we would ever meet.

fast forward to now............What We have here is a mish mash of demos recorded over the span of a year or so as I try to blow the rust off and start pushing that boulder uphill again.

there,I have bared my soul....

enjoy.
